Fruit -Kumquat
Variety -di Giarre
Location – Ladurns ski resort, South Tyrol, Italy
Bought from - Undisclosed location in London
Cost - £17/kg
Grown - Sicily, Italy
Description - What first attracted me to these kumquats was their unusual shape!
Rather than having a smooth, oblong shape, these kumquats have an unusual point at one end. Combined with their deep orange colour, they almost remind me of chunky Chantenay carrots!
Due to their distinctively elongated shape, this variety has a high proportion of pith to flesh.
There is a small amount of juice inside – I really enjoyed the taste of the juice, which wasn’t nearly as sharp as that of other varieties. The pith is much sweeter too, making these kumquats a real pleasure to eat!
Storage -To maintain freshness, store in refrigeration.
Rating - 7.5/10. Compared to other kumquats though, I’d have to give them a 9.5/10. The absence of tangy and acidic notes made themone of the best kumquats I’ve ever tasted!
